Life has its way of surprising you, and in my case it came about 9-12 months ago. Coldplay has been a band for most of my life. They have produced hit after hit and now 7 albums, but even as a music aficionado, I wouldn't say I ignored them, but I just didn't realize their magic until about 9-12 months ago. I started to re-listen to their albums, ask other people which is their favorite album, then ultimately decide that I have been missing out on seeing them live all of this time. I deemed seeing them on tour as a Bucket List concert, and since I failed to see them in Arizona in 2016, finding the closest show in 2017 was on the menu. It came down to Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA or Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA. Since, I had never been to the Rose Bowl, that is the choice I made.
I spent a couple of months researching tickets, you know the science of price versus location. Finally decided one based on availability and my quest to make this concert happen. I would say that I chose very well (see my Instagram). Since I have a morbid curiosity about things once I set my mind to them, YouTube is great for figuring out the set list, but despite videos, the live experience is just something special. The opening sets by Alina Baraz and Tove Lo did not disappoint, but the moment it was time for us 55,000+ fans to rock with Coldplay, the night was ON. Ironic that it fell on a full moon. The production and thought that goes into their concert is phenomenal! I figured out why they didn't return to Phoenix area, our concert venues aren't as big nor could they handle the pyrotechnics.
The fact that we all showed up on a week that began with a tragedy in Las Vegas and the death of Tom Petty, not to mention everything else going on in the world, you could feel the LOVE and UNITY in the air. Everything that those 4 guys not only stand for, but preach has clicked with a lot of us. This was certanly evident by the return of James Corden as well as announcement that proceeds for this and the one in San Diego was going towards disaster relief!
Needless to say, this was probably the BEST concert experience of my life, and considering I have been to many different shows and events, that just shows you how special. I plan to attend one or more shows on their future tours.
